064: Tips for a Binge Free Halloween (and What to Do if You Go Overboard with Candy)

If you feel like the Reeses and Kit Kats are calling your name even days (or weeks!) before Halloween – this episode is a must-listen!

I’m talking all about how to be normal around the Halloween Candy. No more binging, no more sneaking Twix late at night, no more the ‘I just had one and now I can’t stop’ way of thinking.

I’m also giving you the rundown of what exactly to do if you tend to go a tad overboard (and it happens to the best of us)!

My Halloween “Love-Hate” Relationship

Let me be real: Halloween has never been my holiday. As a kid, I was terrified of my own shadow, and honestly, not much has changed. I’m the person who checks behind every door—walking around my own house, no less! And with two little ones now, I have to play it cool, even if I’m secretly convinced something’s about to jump out at me. But if there’s one thing I do love about Halloween, it’s the candy. So, let’s talk about how to handle the endless parade of treats without the guilt trip.

Halloween Candy: The Struggle Is Real

If you’re anything like me, Halloween candy isn’t just a snack—it’s a tiny, wrapped-up mind game. We tell ourselves to avoid buying it, yet somehow we end up staring at a mountain of miniature bars, thinking, “Maybe just one…” And then the guilt, the self-blame, and the “I’ll start fresh tomorrow” promises. Sound familiar?

Tricks for Treats Without the Guilt

Here’s the real trick for Halloween candy (and I’m not talking about hiding it in the back of the pantry). Instead, it’s about shifting our mindset. That starts with two big things:

1. Abundance Mindset

Candy isn’t some rare gem only available one day a year. Reeses, KitKats, Snickers—they’re all right there at your local store. You don’t have to eat it all now! Changing how we view candy can help take the pressure off and stop that “I have to eat it now” urge.

2. Permission to Enjoy

What if you could just have the candy and not feel like you’ve done something wrong? No more labeling yourself “good” or “bad” over a snack. Let yourself enjoy it, and then move on. Because the stress of judging yourself over a piece of candy is more exhausting than just eating it and moving on.

What if You Go Overboard?

Let’s be honest: sometimes, we overdo it. Maybe it’s three Reeses, maybe it’s six. It’s okay! The trick here? Channel your inner Elsa and let it go. Overeating isn’t the end of the world. Be kind to yourself, check in with how you feel, and then wait until you’re truly hungry to eat again. Don’t try to make up for it with punishment tactics like skipping meals or logging extra hours at the gym. Let yourself be, and keep moving forward.

Halloween candy doesn’t have to be a haunted experience. With a shift in perspective, a little self-kindness, and a reminder that candy is always there, you can enjoy the holiday without the food drama. And if you’ve found any of these tips helpful, drop me a message on Instagram! I’d love to hear how you’re handling Halloween this year (and if you’re a scaredy-cat like me).
