046: Cycle Syncing Your Cravings with Renae Fieck

Are you someone who has out of control cravings and feel like a different person during your time of the month? (Guilty)! There is a reason for it – and it’s all based on the different phases of our menstrual cycle.

In this episode, as we chat with Renae Fieck, an occupational therapist and cycle syncing coach, and we’ll discover how to shift our perspective by understanding the real connection between our emotions and physical health, and how it could help us become our best selves.

Step One: Understanding Food Freedom Isn’t Just About the Food

First things first, if you think food freedom means tossing all rules and grabbing handfuls of chips and chocolate 24/7, we might need a little reset. (As much as I love a good chocolate binge, trust me, this is about so much more.) Food freedom is about allowing yourself to enjoy the foods you love without feeling like you’re going off the rails. It’s knowing you can have a piece of cake without the mental math and guilt trip that usually follows.

Step Two: Real Talk About the Diet Industry

I get it. We’ve been taught that “losing weight” and “fixing our diets” are THE ways to be happy. The diet industry wants you to keep buying their magic potions, meal plans, and subscriptions. But news flash: happiness isn’t found at the bottom of a kale smoothie. (Although, if you love kale, no hate here!) Instead of restrictive rules, focus on making choices that work for you, not for the Instagram guru selling her “one-size-fits-all” plan.

Step Three: Embrace Your Wins, Big and Small

Your food journey won’t be a straight line—it’s more of a dance, with some dips and spins along the way. So maybe you had a slice of pizza or three; instead of beating yourself up, appreciate that you’re learning to enjoy food without turning it into a punishment. Celebrate your growth, not just the pounds lost or gained!

Step Four: Recognize That Food Isn’t the Enemy

If you’re used to thinking about food as “good” or “bad,” it’s time to shake things up. Food is fuel, food is joy, and food is life. You wouldn’t label yourself as “good” or “bad” based on what you ate, right? Your food choices don’t define your worth. So grab that donut (or don’t), but do it because you want to—not because it’s a “cheat day” or because you feel pressured.

And here’s my final thought for you: This isn’t about letting food have power over you; it’s about putting food back in its place. It’s just food, after all. You’re allowed to enjoy it, celebrate it, and move on with your fabulous, food-free (obsession-free!) life.

So next time you’re feeling overwhelmed, remind yourself that balance is the key. You’re not “starting fresh” on Monday; you’re living in a way that’s true to you every single day. And that’s the real freedom.
