It’s officially summertime! Are you also one of those who think summer can trigger insecurities, especially during bathing suit season? 😓
Well then, YOU are not alone!! This is for you!
In this episode, we’ll discuss body image pressures and how I navigate weight gain
without obsessing over my body, the scale, and all the food rules I ‘should’ be following.
This is a bit of a vulnerable episode and I’m excited to share because we all need a reminder that bodies change during different seasons of life.
The Reality of a Few Extra Pounds
So how do I know I’ve gained a bit of weight? Spoiler alert: I don’t step on the scale every morning (or night, or after every bathroom break… TMI? Oops!). Nope, for me, it’s all about the clothes. My jeans? A bit snugger than usual. That go-to tank top? Not as roomy as it once was. And you know what? That’s totally fine! Clothes don’t lie, but they also don’t dictate my worth.
I LOVE using clothes as a measure because of the scale. Pfft. It’s fickle. Water weight, time of the month, or even that extra plate of pasta last night—so many things can mess with that number. But my jeans? They tell me what’s up without all the drama.
Why the Weight Gain? Let’s Get Honest
Here’s where the real talk comes in. The weight gain? It didn’t come from late-night Oreo binges or secret candy stashes. No, it’s simply because I haven’t been prioritizing myself lately. Let’s emphasize that word: prioritizing. Notice I didn’t say, “I didn’t have time.” Because let’s be real—when we say we don’t have time, we’re essentially saying it’s not important. The truth is, I’ve had to put myself on the back burner for a bit, and that’s okay.
Life has been wild—kids getting sick (oh, the joys of endless doctor appointments), business trips, weekend getaways to Hershey Park (chocolate heaven, but I digress), and then I got hit with a nasty bug myself. So yeah, working out and meal prep took a little hiatus. But that doesn’t mean I’m throwing in the towel.
The Game Plan: Back to Basics
Here’s the kicker: I’m not about to spiral into some crash diet or obsessive gym routine. Nope! We’re keeping it simple and sane around here. The key is getting back to the basics:
- Exercise that fits my life: I found an amazing gym with daycare (hallelujah!). Now my husband and I can work out while the kids are basically at their own amusement park. Win-win!
- Sleep, glorious sleep: Trust me, sleep trumps squeezing in a workout at 5 AM (more on that in another episode!).
- Fueling my body: No more takeout because the fridge is empty. Prioritizing grocery shopping and having healthy, easy-to-grab meals is my new mantra.
It’s Okay, Really!
The bottom line? Gaining a few pounds is not a catastrophe. It’s just life, and the way we handle it is what matters. Are you going to panic and restrict yourself into misery? Or are you going to calmly get back to the basics and start feeling better from the inside out?
Remember: nothing is permanent. Just like the seasons change, so do our bodies, and that’s 100% normal. So, the next time your clothes fit a little snug, don’t freak out. Breathe, reassess, and make small, positive changes. You’ve got this.
