You know that thing where Sundays start off all calm and cozy, and then suddenly, it’s like you’re eating everything in sight? Yeah… what’s up with that?
In this episode, we’re talking about a pattern so many people fall into but don’t always realize. It’s frustrating, confusing, and, honestly, a little exhausting. But don’t worry—we’re keeping it real, having some laughs, and figuring out what’s really going on here!!
If your Sundays feel like an accidental all-you-can-eat event, you’re not alone. Grab a snack (or don’t, no pressure), get comfy, and tune in with me!
Sunday Blues or Sunday Food Frenzy?
Remember when Sundays used to be all about “Sunday Funday”? Back in my twenties, I’d get all excited for the weekend, only to end up binge-eating like it was my last meal on earth. Yep, my Sunday looked like waking up, stuffing my face with everything I could find, then spending Monday through Thursday “working it off,” only to repeat the whole cycle the following weekend. Classic.
One of my followers DM’d me recently about her Sunday binge struggles, and I realized — this is a bigger issue than we think! If you’ve ever felt like you need to “get all your eating in” before the strict diet starts Monday, then this episode is for YOU.
The Sunday Trap: Why Do We Do This?
So, what’s the deal with Sunday bingeing? Well, it’s not just about overeating. There’s a sneaky little mental trick happening here.
Here’s how it goes down: As soon as we hit Sunday, our brains start whispering, “Tomorrow’s Monday. Time to get back on track. Time to be good. Time to eat clean.” You know the drill — paleo, keto, Whole30, whatever diet is the flavor of the week. It’s like our mind immediately shifts into “starting over” mode.
And here’s where it gets tricky: We know that Monday means saying goodbye to pizza, cookies, ice cream, and all the glorious foods we “can’t” have on a diet. So what do we do? We eat it all. Every last bite. We figure, “I have to get my money’s worth before it all ends tomorrow!” We stuff ourselves to the brim because we think we’ll never see this deliciousness again.
But guess what? The food isn’t going anywhere. And you certainly don’t have to eat everything in sight today just because Monday’s coming.
The Mental Food Game: Stop Playing Tricks on Yourself
Here’s what’s really happening in our heads: When we say, “I have to get back on track tomorrow,” we’re fooling ourselves into thinking that all the pizza and cookies will magically disappear. Our brains start panicking, thinking, “If I don’t eat everything now, it’ll be gone forever!” That’s why we go overboard and eat way more than we actually need. It’s like we’re trying to squeeze a lifetime of food into one Sunday.
But here’s the truth — when we do this, we’re stuck in the cycle of binge, guilt, restrict, and repeat. And that’s how we end up feeling miserable by Monday morning, only to do it all again the next weekend. It’s a never-ending loop of food shame.
The Secret Sauce to Break the Cycle
Alright, it’s time to break free from this nonsense. And no, it’s not about going on another crazy diet. That’s not what we’re here for.
Let’s try a different approach. The first thing I want you to do is recognize that food is everywhere. Seriously. It’s all around you, all the time. So, if you’re eating pizza on Sunday and thinking, “I need more! I’ll never be able to eat this again,” stop right there. You can have pizza anytime.
Yes, anytime. If you want, you could order pizza again for dinner Monday night. Heck, have pizza for breakfast on Tuesday if that’s what floats your boat! The point is, there’s no need to eat everything in one sitting because you’re scared it’ll disappear forever. It won’t. It’s always there.
Once you realize that, the urgency to binge starts to fade away. You can take your time, enjoy the food, and move on.
Ditch the Dieting Mentality: No More “Starting Over”
Here’s another game-changer: Don’t say you’re starting over on Monday. The whole idea of, “I’m getting back on track tomorrow,” is a dangerous mindset. It reinforces the extremes — binge on Sunday, diet on Monday. This sets you up for failure because you’re always switching between two polar opposites: overeating and restricting.
Instead, tell yourself, “I’m not dieting tomorrow.” That’s it. No more extremes. Just eating like a normal human being. Trust me, this tiny shift in thinking will change everything.
Awareness Is Key
You won’t change overnight, and that’s totally fine. But the key is awareness. Start paying attention to your thoughts when you’re about to eat that third slice of pizza. Ask yourself, What am I thinking right now? What’s driving you to eat more?
The more you practice this awareness, the easier it becomes to step out of the binge-restrict cycle. And before you know it, those “Sundays” won’t feel so intense anymore.
In my Food Freedom Society program, we dive deep into these habits and beliefs, helping members achieve true freedom. It’s not just about what you eat—it’s about changing how you think about food.
No More Sunday Food Frenzies
Let’s stop letting Sundays dictate our food decisions. Food isn’t the enemy. And neither is Monday. So, instead of trying to “make up” for everything you ate over the weekend, let’s work on creating a healthy relationship with food that doesn’t involve shame or guilt.
If you’ve been struggling with this, shoot me a DM on Instagram. I’d love to hear what you’re going through and how I can help. And if you haven’t signed up for my next live training, make sure to grab your spot. I’m going to teach you how to stop bingeing by summer and feel your best in your skin.
Until next time, friends!
