If you are someone who *knows* you need to exercise but you just can’t seem to stick with it, or you start off strong and then don’t lace up your sneakers for a few weeks, it’s all good! This is the episode for you.
Finding a workout routine you like isn’t easy, but sticking with one is even harder. In this episode, we’ll learn how to reframe our relationship with exercise, making it less about punishment and more about empowerment.
Because when you see exercise in a different way, then you’ll actually exercise in a different way.
Oh, the all-or-nothing mindset—my old frenemy. I was either all in at 5 a.m., hitting the gym with all the intensity of a Marvel hero, or I was all out on my couch, avoiding workout gear like the plague. No in-between.
Why? Because I was exercising for the wrong reasons. And maybe you are, too. We’ve all been conditioned to think of exercise as this magical tool to shrink ourselves. But here’s the kicker: when we don’t instantly see the numbers on the scale drop, we’re like, “Why bother?” Cue the crash and burn.
So, What’s the Fix?
Here’s a thought: what if exercise wasn’t about getting smaller but about feeling better? Stay with me! When I stopped focusing on weight loss as the be-all and end-all, everything changed. I started noticing that when I worked out in the morning, I was happier—like, a lot happier. My mood was better, I was more patient (my friends thanked me), and I had the energy to crush my day.
Once I realized that exercise gave me a mental boost, I started looking forward to it. No more dragging myself to the gym out of guilt. Nope. I was there to chase that post-workout glow.
The Mental Shift That Changed Everything
You know what happens when you start your day doing something hard (like, you know, surviving a workout)? You’re ready to tackle other hard stuff, too. Suddenly, I was crossing things off my to-do list like a boss. I even started a business! I had hard conversations, made big decisions, and became someone who shows up—all because I was moving my body for the right reasons.
Find What Makes You Feel Good (Not Miserable)
Now, I’m not here to sell you on some one-size-fits-all workout plan. I’m the first to admit that I went overboard with things like CrossFit (fun, but maybe too much!). What works for me might not work for you. Some people love running. Personally, I’d rather poke my eye with a fork than run on a treadmill.
What do you enjoy? Think about the activities that made you happy as a kid. Maybe it was soccer or hiking. Find something that lights you up and go with that. It doesn’t have to be complicated or grueling—it just has to be fun.
The Secret Sauce: Feel First, Fitness Second
Here’s the golden nugget: chase how you feel after you exercise, not how you look. When you feel amazing after a workout, you’ll want to do it again and again. And guess what? The changes in your body will come naturally over time.
So, friend, let’s drop the guilt and punishment mindset. Forget the idea that exercise is just about getting smaller. It’s about feeling stronger, happier, and more alive.
Let’s Do This!
Ready to start? Pick something that brings you joy and makes you feel good. Don’t worry about being perfect or sticking to some crazy strict routine. Just move your body and notice how it changes your mood. Soon enough, you’ll be hooked on the good vibes, and the rest will follow.
