In this episode, we are talking all about our brains, and how they run the show without us even realizing. If you struggle with self-sabotage, if you’re waiting for the other shoe to drop, and if you constantly think things are ‘too good to be true,’ then you want to listen up.
TW: discussions of binging and purging. (17:10)
In my first ever interview, we have the pleasure of having Megan Blacksmith, NLP on today’s episode where we talk all about how our beliefs and identity drive us to make decisions (both good and bad) – and how to start dropping the habits we’ve been trying so desperately hard to break.
1. Forget Diets. They’re Just Expensive Sadness in a Box.
Let’s be real: the diet industry has been lying to us since the dawn of low-fat yogurt. Diets thrive on making us feel like failures. But here’s the plot twist: you’re not failing; diets are.
Imagine walking into Monday with zero guilt, no plans to “start over,” and the ability to enjoy pancakes without Googling their calorie count mid-bite. That’s food freedom, baby!
2. My Closet Is My Podcast Studio—And That’s Okay.
Confession time: my podcast setup is about as glamorous as a blanket fort. But hey, the sound quality’s great, and you don’t have to see my laundry mountain just off-screen. Plus, the real focus here is you—learning how to eat, live, and thrive without letting food control your every thought.
Also, if recording podcasts in your closet isn’t peak multitasking, I don’t know what is.
3. Meet the Woman Who Changed My Life
Let’s take a moment to talk about a game-changer in my life—my first guest on this podcast and a personal hero. This woman didn’t just teach me how to eat a sandwich without spiraling into guilt; she taught me how to live.
Through her wisdom, I’ve learned that food isn’t the enemy. It’s fuel. It’s joy. And yes, sometimes it’s pizza at midnight, and that’s okay.
4. Why Food Freedom Isn’t About the Food
Spoiler alert: food freedom isn’t really about food. It’s about figuring out what’s driving those urges to eat an entire bag of chips in one sitting. (Hint: it’s not because chips are inherently evil.)
When you stop punishing yourself and start listening to your body, magical things happen. You stop obsessing over food and start focusing on living your life.
5. Let’s Break Up with the Monday Diet Restart
Raise your hand if Monday is your unofficial “new beginning.” Now, let’s collectively agree to break up with that toxic cycle. Food freedom means every day can be a fresh start—no waiting for Monday or the next full moon to finally get it together.
Because here’s the truth: you already have it together. You just need a little guidance to see it.
Final Thoughts: The Pizza Is Calling—Answer It!
At the end of the day, food freedom isn’t about perfection; it’s about progress. It’s about learning to enjoy your favorite meals without feeling like you need to “make up for it” later.
So, here’s to saying goodbye to diet culture and hello to living your best, food-freeing life. And if anyone judges you for having that extra slice of pizza? Hand them this blog.
