028: How to do Weekend Things Without Binging

If you have ever found yourself binge eating or overeating before a big event (think: wedding, vacations, holidays, double date nights that you reeeeaaally don’t want to go to but your partner is forcing you to)  then this episode is a MUST LISTEN!

I’m talking all about weddings in this episode; where I compared what weddings were like when I was deep in binge eating, versus now.

More importantly, I’m talking about the big shifts that helped me feel my best before, during, and after weddings!

Why “Starting Over Monday” Doesn’t Work

Raise your hand if your inner dialogue goes like this:
“This week, I’m sticking to the plan. No slip-ups. No late-night snacks.”

Fast-forward to Friday, and you’re elbow-deep in a bag of chips, telling yourself, “Monday. I’ll start again Monday.”

Here’s the kicker: you’re not failing. The system is. Diet culture thrives on your sense of failure. It’s like a clingy ex—it keeps coming back because you think you need it, but really, it just drains your joy and sanity.

Food Rules Are Not Your Friend

Let’s talk about food rules—the uninvited houseguests of your mind. You know the ones:

  • “Carbs after 7 PM? You’re doomed!”
  • “Sugar equals instant weight gain!”

Following these rules might feel like control, but in reality, it’s just a recipe for rebellion. The more you tell yourself you can’t have something, the more you want it. It’s human nature.

The truth? Food doesn’t need to be scary. It’s fuel, not the enemy.

Listening to Your Body: The Radical Concept

Imagine this: what if, instead of obsessing over what you should eat, you simply asked, “What does my body want?”

I know, it sounds like a plot twist in a rom-com, but it’s transformative. Your body is pretty smart. When you learn to tune in, it will tell you when it’s hungry, when it’s full, and even what foods make you feel amazing (or, you know, like a potato stuck in mud).

It takes practice and patience, but it’s worth it.

Let’s Break the Cycle Together

If you’re ready to stop letting food control your life, start small. Listen to your hunger cues, challenge those food rules, and let go of the guilt. And remember, it’s not about being perfect—it’s about finding balance and joy.

This journey isn’t easy, but it’s oh-so worth it. And guess what? You don’t have to do it alone. I’ve got your back.
